Kāpiti Slow Wireless & Dropouts Diagnosis

Slow speeds, weak signal, dead spots, buffering and Wi-Fi that keeps dropping out — we diagnose the real cause and fix it. Using professional survey software we pinpoint exactly what's holding your wireless back, then recommend the right solution for your home or business across the Kāpiti Coast.

No guessing and no upselling. From repositioning your gear to a robust mesh upgrade or a full enterprise setup, we solve it properly — so your Wi-Fi is fast, strong and reliable in every room.

What's slowing your Wi-Fi?

We find the real cause of slow, dropping Wi-Fi

Slow and unreliable Wi-Fi is rarely down to just one thing. It can be the wrong hardware, poor placement, distance, the materials your home is built from, interference from neighbours, channel congestion, or an issue on the line itself. Throwing a new router at it without knowing the cause usually just wastes money.

Instead, we diagnose. Using professional survey software we map your coverage, test your speeds and throughput, and scan for interference — so we know exactly why your Wi-Fi is slow, weak or dropping before we recommend a fix.

We diagnose and fix slow wireless everywhere from Paekākāriki and Paraparaumu to Raumati, Waikanae, Te Horo and Ōtaki, and the rural blocks across the Kāpiti Coast.

Building materials & interference

What's really blocking your signal

When Wi-Fi is slow or keeps dropping, the building itself is often the culprit — and we've worked in just about every kind of Kāpiti home and business. We know how different construction affects a wireless signal, and how to design around it.

Concrete walls Concrete cladding Brick & double-brick Foil-backed insulation Steel framing & cladding

Concrete walls and concrete cladding, foil-backed insulation, building wrap and steel framing all absorb or reflect Wi-Fi — which is why one router in the lounge often can't reach the rest of the house. It's not just your walls, either: in busier areas like central Paraparaumu and Waikanae Beach, dozens of neighbouring networks crowd the same channels, and everyday devices like microwaves and baby monitors add to the interference.

Because we've seen how these factors play out right across the coast, we can quickly tell whether your problem is the building, interference, congestion, placement or hardware — and recommend the fix that will actually work.

A bigger antenna won't punch through concrete cladding or foil insulation. The fix is the right hardware in the right places — often wired back to key spots and designed around your building, not a stronger signal fired at a solid wall.

The solutions

From a mesh upgrade to a full enterprise solution

A Robust Mesh Upgrade

For most homes, the fix is a properly designed mesh system — nodes placed for real-world coverage, wired backhaul where possible and channels tuned — so the dead spots and dropouts are gone for good.

An Enterprise Wi-Fi Solution

For larger homes, offices and demanding setups, an enterprise-grade Ubiquiti UniFi network delivers the best performance, capacity and reliability — the same gear businesses trust, tuned for your property.

Slow Speeds

Not getting the speeds you pay for? We find whether it's your Wi-Fi, your hardware or the line itself — and fix it.

Slow Throughput

Fine on a speed test but slow in real use? We track down the throughput bottleneck choking your network.

Weak Signal

Signal that fades out in the far rooms, upstairs or out the back — we map it and put strong coverage where you need it.

Dead Spots

Rooms with no Wi-Fi at all? We locate every dead spot and design coverage that actually reaches them.

Buffering & Streaming

Netflix spinning and video calls freezing? We fix the congestion and coverage issues behind the buffering.

Dropouts & Disconnections

Wi-Fi that keeps dropping or disconnecting? We find the cause — interference, hardware or config — and make it stable.

How it works

How our Wi-Fi diagnosis works

We start with a one-hour on-site diagnosis. Using professional survey software we map your coverage, run speed and throughput tests, and scan for interference and channel congestion — so we find the real cause of your slow or dropping Wi-Fi, not a guess.

You get a clear, plain-English explanation of what's wrong and a fixed quote for the fix — whether that's repositioning gear, a mesh upgrade or a full enterprise setup. The diagnosis is charged at our standard rates.

Your diagnosis includes

  • Full coverage & signal survey
  • Speed & throughput testing
  • Interference & congestion scan
  • Building & cladding assessment
  • The root cause, explained plainly
  • A fixed quote to fix it

★★★★★
Amazing service. For years we struggled with intermittent disconnections, dropouts and weak signal down the back of our house. We thought we had the right setup, but Dave came and installed a whole new setup for us, and we can now stream 4K Netflix in the back bedroom, yay!

Slow Wi-Fi & Dropouts FAQs

Why is my Wi-Fi so slow in Paraparaumu or Waikanae?
Slow Wi-Fi has many possible causes — the wrong or ageing hardware, poor placement, distance, thick walls or cladding, interference from neighbouring networks, channel congestion, or an issue on your line. In busier parts of Paraparaumu and Waikanae, network congestion is especially common. We diagnose it on site so you know the real reason, not a guess.
Do you fix Wi-Fi dropouts and dead spots across the Kāpiti Coast?
Yes. We diagnose and fix slow speeds, dropouts, weak signal and dead spots for homes and businesses from Paekākāriki and Paraparaumu through Raumati and Waikanae to Te Horo, Ōtaki and the rural blocks in between.
What causes slow Wi-Fi, buffering and dropouts?
Usually a mix of things: hardware that can't cover your home, nodes or routers in the wrong place, distance and building materials weakening the signal, interference and channel congestion, or too many devices for the network. We test for each of these to find the true cause.
Can concrete walls or concrete cladding block my Wi-Fi?
Yes — concrete walls and concrete cladding are some of the toughest materials for Wi-Fi, along with foil-backed insulation, building wrap and steel framing. They absorb and reflect the signal, so a single router often can't reach through them. We design coverage around your specific construction, frequently wiring back to key rooms rather than relying on signal punching through solid walls.
Can my neighbours' Wi-Fi interfere with mine?
Absolutely. In built-up streets and apartments, lots of nearby networks compete for the same channels, which slows everyone down. Everyday devices like microwaves, baby monitors and cordless phones add to it. We scan for interference and congestion and set your network up on the clearest channels.
Will a mesh system fix my slow speeds and dead spots?
Very often, yes — for most homes a properly designed mesh system is the fix, with nodes placed for real coverage and wired backhaul where possible. For larger or demanding setups we may recommend an enterprise UniFi solution instead. The diagnosis tells us which is right for you.
Is my problem the internet plan or the Wi-Fi?
That's one of the first things we check. We test the speed at the source versus around your home, so we can tell whether it's your Wi-Fi and hardware, or an issue with your plan or line — and point you the right way either way.
How much does a Wi-Fi diagnosis cost in Kāpiti?
Our one-hour on-site diagnosis is charged at standard rates — $125 including GST for residential or $145+GST for business, plus a $25 local travel fee. Any fix, from repositioning to a mesh upgrade or enterprise install, is quoted separately as one fixed price.
